Support Groups

Adult grief support group services

Grief support at Fox Valley Hands of Hope is provided by experienced group facilitators who are knowledgeable in the types of loss addressed for these specialized groups. Facilitators identify and encourage opportunities for social interactions with people who understand the type of loss the client is experiencing. Resources and handouts specific to the type of loss are provided.

All adult support groups are held in a confidential environment at Fox Valley Hands of Hope’s facilities. Our upcoming support groups are listed alphabetically below.

To register for any of these programs, contact Christy Pitol, Manager of Bereavement Services (phone: 630.232.2233, extension 230; e-mail: cpitol@fvhh.net).

Crossroads

The Crossroads group is for people who have accepted the reality of the death loss, explored many of the initial feelings which occur within the first two years of loss and now are seeking a new life direction. The program is designed specifically for those who have attended the Pathways group (see below). Each member will go through an assessment process to determine the course that is best for prospective group member. This assessment will determine if the participant should attend Pathways again to further explore the depths of loss or is ready to explore other issues pertaining to loss through Crossroads.

M.A.L.E.S. (Men After a Loss Expressing Themselves Safely)

We realize that grieving can be particularly difficult for men who are expected to be “strong” and often bottle up their feelings. Many men who appear to be adjusting well to the death of their loved one may be suffering silently. M.A.L.E.S. helps men grieve by allowing them to freely express their thoughts and feelings with other men. Coffee and donuts are provided.

This is an open group which meets at Fox Valley Hands of Hope’s facilities in Geneva on the second Saturday of each month at 9 a.m.

  • Registration/interview required? Yes
  • Refundable deposit required? No
  • Duration of group: Ongoing
